Citizen participation for the co-creation of narratives in audiovisual products in the field of science communication

0.00

Romero-Luis, Juan · Magalhães, Joana · Vilaseca, Heloise · et al.

1 files · 4.2 MB · pdfdeclared

This industrial research report examines the feasibility of citizen participation in co-creating narratives for science communication audiovisual products, focusing specifically on Extended Reality (XR) technologies-including Virtual, Augmented, and Mixed Reality. Based on a pilot study utilizing Science For Change's (SFC) co-creation methodology, two distinct methodological approaches were evaluated: an optimization phase for predefined use cases and an exploratory phase aimed at identifying new opportunities. The findings suggest that the effectiveness of narratives in immersive environments depends not only on technical viability, but also on building trust and the user's perceived utility. The study concludes that while the first approach-focused on predefined cases-is effective for validating existing products and mitigating adoption barriers, the second, exploratory approach is indispensable for uncovering unmet social needs. Finally, the report outlines six strategic recommendations for implementing participatory design processes, emphasizing the need to work with homogeneous population samples and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the seamless transfer of citizen insights into the final audiovisual script.

Intentional Design Psychology: a critical transdisciplinary approach for collectively designing regenerative futures

0.00

Kalantidou, Eleni

1 files · 1.1 MB · pdfdeclared

Design psychology has been present for decades through practitioners 'humanizing' design and comforting users. As impromptu-practiced, it has been enabling the current economic paradigm and its consequent side-effects including environmental degradation and social exclusion. By contrast, Intentional Design Psychology has been conceptualized to purposefully bring critical transdisciplinary voices together, generating collective designs able to support and be supported by adaptive and resilient psychologies. In this paper, Intentional Design Psychology's concepts and loose ideological framework are discussed as provocations for rethinking aspects of Transition Design's framework. To expand chosen Transition Design's Mindsets and Postures , Tools and Practices , the paper presents an in-depth exploration of shaping and shifting behaviors through the practices of Di/de with Care (detaching, destroying, disassembling and discomforting) and Community-led Behavioral Change . The aspiration is to enrich Transition Design's framework and its mission toward regenerative futures whilst inviting theorists, practitioners and researchers to play with Intentional Design Psychology's ideas.

Mittermeier Attractor Theory (MAT) as a Closure-First Grand-Theory Candidate: From Finite Support to Vacuum, Laboratory Coupling, Matter, Metrology, and Cosmic Endstate

0.00

Mittermeier, Rainer Andreas

1 files · 1.9 MB · pdfdeclared

Mittermeier Attractor Theory (MAT) develops a radical inversion of the explanatory order of physics: the universe is treated not as a collection of independently fitted constants, sectors, and initial conditions, but as the finite readout of a single arithmetic-spectral closure architecture. Starting from the plastic seed ρ³ = ρ + 1, MAT constructs a finite quantum-support cell, transports its boundary defect through a forty-dimensional trace, and matches the resulting coordinate to an exactly back-integrated two-threshold vacuum flow. This matching condition selects Λ₀* = 2.816998732893824 × 10⁻¹²². Within the same architecture, the resulting source axis generates matter, primordial, baryonic, radiation, Hubble, CMB, and laboratory readouts, together with Higgs/flavor and neutrino targets. The dimensional sector closes through a graded electron boundary action and the Rydberg bridge. With the Rydberg wavenumber as the sole non-exact dimensional anchor, together with the exact defining constants of the 2019 SI, MAT reconstructs the complete Planck-unit ledger (ℓₚ, tₚ, Mₚ, Tₚ, qₚ), the full derived Planck system, and G(MAT) = 6.674240942595433 × 10⁻¹¹ m³ kg⁻¹ s⁻², without measured gravity or Hubble calibration entering the forward chain. At the ultraviolet boundary, MAT replaces the classical zero-radius singular origin with a finite cell characterized by nonzero radius, entropy, density, temperature, and curvature. The same entropy defines a black-hole compactness crossing and a finite information ledger, supports a horizon-area counting map, anchors an explicit-formula/Riemann-Weil transport coordinate, and enters a conditional lithium-seven boundary-transfer companion. The same vacuum root also fixes the de Sitter entropy and the origin-to-endstate interval. Taken together, the construction yields one unifying result within MAT: quantities and laws that appear across separate physical theories become correlated projections of a single finite mathematical object spanning the origin, the observable universe, and its asymptotic endstate. MAT therefore recasts unification itself-not as an accumulation of sectors connected by additional parameters, but as one mathematical closure appearing in different physical regimes.

PDF-only public-review version 2.0 of a monograph-scale manuscript on the K4 cell framework (1003 pages). The citable release unit is the manuscript PDF plus review metadata; technical criticism is invited through the linked GitHub review surface. New relative to v1.0 (2026-05-20): 31 primary predictions plus twenty companion refinements; a two-term cosmological-constant readout at 0.9 sigma; neutrino-sector closures (normal ordering derived, Majorana phase point value m_bb = 3.69 meV, theta_23 octant, leptogenesis sign lock with the standing falsifier sin(delta_CP) < 0); structure theorems (spontaneous CP orientation, readout-conservativity closure with a complete topological-memory census, and a cell-bootstrap theorem reducing the axiom base to the existence of the cell lattice); and a Lean 4 release sign-off ledger over all 771 theorem rows (727 Lean-certified at full granularity, remainder explicitly tiered). The v1.0 erratum items (Part 1 operator-norm reconstruction chain) are incorporated. Separate manuscript-source, software-code, numerical-script, and full reproduction packages are deferred to later releases unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Code and synthetic data accompanying the study "Bias-corrected Exceedance Mapping of Groundwater Nitrate Using Geostatistical and Machine-Learning Models", currently in press in Environmental Modelling & Software (preprint available in SSRN at https://ssrn.com/abstract=6875198 ) The research demonstrates why thresholding point predictions can lead to biased estimates of environmental exceedance areas, and shows how exceedance-probability mapping with area calibration can reduce this bias. The repository provides R scripts and mock data to illustrate the full analysis workflow. The data are entirely synthetic, or fake, but they mimic the distributional characteristics of the real-world data analyzed in the paper. The synthetic data are intended only to demonstrate the methods and reproducible workflow, not to support substantive conclusions about groundwater nitrate. The associated publication should be cited when using the code or synthetic data published in this repository.

1 files · 352 KB · pdfdeclared

Abstract Subjective information about people's quality of life has always received bad press in the human development paradigm and the capability approach, despite their influence in the promotion of human-centred policies. But, there are arguments put forward by their founders, Amartya Sen and Martha Nussbaum, that subjective information, or happiness, can play several important roles in thinking about human development policies. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to examine how happiness can be part of human development and capability strategies. For this aim, Sen and Nussbaum's views on happiness will be reviewed and compared to understand the value of subjective information in their work.

This repository combines the hardware design files, software library, and deployment scripts for LibrePiLogger, an open-source, low-cost data logging platform built around the Raspberry Pi for long-term environmental monitoring using Modbus sensors. The platform was developed at the Institute for Modeling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems (IWS), University of Stuttgart, and has been deployed for continuous CO₂ and ²²²Rn monitoring in karst environments. The hardware design files describe two configurations assembled entirely from off-the-shelf components (Raspberry Pi, RS485 interface, power supply) at a total cost of 54-63 €. Sensor communication is handled by AtmosPyre, a Python library that abstracts Modbus communication over RS485 with built-in support for CO₂ and ²²²Rn sensors; new instruments can be added via a lightweight driver of approximately 100 lines. Deployment across one or many units is automated by senso-pi, an Ansible-based toolkit that handles hardware configuration, dependency installation, and systemd service setup for RS485 sensors using AtmosPyre. Data is logged to timestamped CSV files with JSON metadata. Files in this repository: wiring_diagram_usb.pdf / wiring_diagram_usb.svg : wiring diagram for the maximal setup (Raspberry Pi 4 with USB-to-RS485 converter). wiring_diagram_hat.pdf / wiring_diagram_hat.svg : wiring diagram for the minimal setup (Raspberry Pi Zero with RS485 CAN HAT). atmospyre-v1.0.1.zip : source archive of the AtmosPyre Python library (Modbus sensor communication) at release v1.0.1. senso-pi-v1.0.1.zip : source archive of the senso-pi Ansible deployment toolkit at release v1.0.1. Impact of Demographic Developments and PCV13 Vaccination on the Future Burden of Pneumococcal Diseases in Germany - An Integrated Probabilistic Differential Equation Approach

Kuhlmann, Alexander · Sarajan, Myka Harun · Mahreen, Kahkashan · et al.

1 files · 2.8 MB · pdfdeclared

Abstract. Streptococcus pneumonia is the primary cause of morbidity and mortality in infants and children globally. Invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) incidence is affected by various risk factors such as age and comorbidities. Additionally, this bacterium is a major cause of community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), leading to higher rates of hospitalization, especially among older adults. Vaccination with pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) has proven effective, but the demographic transition in Germany poses a challenge. This study introduces a novel stochastic approach by integrating a population forecast model into a transmission dynamic model to investigate the future burden of pneumococcal diseases in three age groups (0-4, 5-59, and 60 and older). Our simulations, presented through mean predictions and 75% prediction intervals, indicate that implementing PCV13 (13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine) until the year 2050 results in reduced cases of IPD and CAP in all age groups compared to scenarios without infant vaccination. However, cases with non-vaccine serotypes may persist at higher levels compared to scenarios without infant vaccination. Consequently, there may be a need for improvement in the current national vaccine policy, such as implementing the use of higher-valent PCVs and strengthening adult vaccination uptake.

The Left Seat: A Command Upgrade Companion

The Left Seat is a developmental companion for the experienced first officer preparing for command. It addresses the quieter, harder side of the transition - how to think like a captain before holding the title, how to build a flight deck that functions better under pressure, and how to make conservative decisions early, while options remain. Organised into eight parts, it moves from the nature of the command transition and its legal and leadership foundations, through the human-factors competencies that command assessment examines, the operational sequence of a flight and the management of non-normal events, the relational and cross-cultural dimension of leading a crew, and preparation for the assessment itself and the first months in the seat. It is a peer-to-peer, non-evaluative working tool built around structured reflection prompts rather than model answers, complemented by a self-assessment and a command reference card.

Evaluating AlphaEarth and TESSERA Geospatial Embeddings for Machine Learning-Based Burned Area Mapping in Portugal

Abstract Accurate burned area mapping is essential for wildfire damage assessment, post-fire management and fire regime analysis in fire-prone Mediterranean landscapes. Classical satellite-based approaches typically rely on spectral indices derived from paired pre- and post-fire optical imagery. Recently released geospatial embedding datasets, such as AlphaEarth and TESSERA, provide compact, ready-to-use representations of Earth observation data that may support burned area classification with lower event-specific processing requirements. However, their performance relative to established spectral workflows remains insufficiently assessed. This study compares AlphaEarth and TESSERA against a Sentinel-2 spectral baseline for machine learning-based burned area classification across twenty wildfire events from the official 2024 ICNF burned area catalogue for Portugal. Burned and unburned samples were generated from official fire perimeters using an adaptive, area-proportional sampling strategy. The Sentinel-2 baseline was constructed from pre- and post-fire temporal windows combining original bands, spectral indices and difference features. Random Forest, Support Vector Machine and Gradient Boosting classifiers were evaluated using five-fold GroupKFold cross-validation grouped by fire event, ensuring that no wildfire contributed samples to both training and test sets. TESSERA consistently outperformed AlphaEarth among the embedding-based representations. With Support Vector Machine, TESSERA achieved a mean F1-score of 0.860±0.046, compared with 0.812±0.083 for AlphaEarth. However, neither embedding matched the Sentinel-2 spectral baseline, which achieved the strongest overall performance with a mean F1-score of 0.895±0.027. Both embeddings showed reduced performance when features were extracted from the year following the fire rather than from the fire year itself, with F1-scores decreasing from 0.812 to 0.722 for AlphaEarth and from 0.860 to 0.796 for TESSERA. Spatial prediction maps generated with the best-performing TESSERA/SVM model reproduced coherent burned area patterns for two large fire events, although the quantitative evaluation remained sample-based rather than fully cartographic. These results indicate that geospatial embeddings are promising scalable complements to spectral workflows, rather than direct replacements. TESSERA, in particular, approaches spectral-baseline performance while avoiding event-specific image differencing, making it useful when a single annual feature layer must support the classification of multiple fire events. Nevertheless, when accurate fire dates and suitable Sentinel-2 imagery are available, a purpose-built spectral baseline remains the stronger option.

From Execution Evidence to Governed Reliance: A Grammar for Relying on What AI Agents Do

0.00

Williams, Thomas C.

1 files · 167 KB · pdfdeclared

Agentic AI is shifting AI governance from model oversight toward action oversight. The central governance problem is no longer only whether a model produced an inaccurate, biased, or unsafe output. It is whether an AI-mediated system was authorized to take a consequential protected action, whether evidence of that action can be independently verified, and whether a party with standing can rely on that evidence for a defined purpose. Existing governance artifacts, including policies, approvals, logs, lineage records, observability data, runtime controls, and audit trails, are necessary but not sufficient. They can show that something happened, or that a system permitted it, without showing that the action carried valid, scoped, current authority or that the resulting evidence can survive dispute outside the system that produced it. ProofRail is proposed as a reference architecture and institutional grammar for this problem. It separates protected-action evidence from verification, verification from governed reliance, and governed reliance from broader institutional legitimacy. The paper introduces the ProofRail ladder: Iron controls, Bronze evidences, Silver verifies, Gold relies, and Platinum federates.
