Map of Natura 2000 forest habitat type clusters in Flanders for the evaluation of the Minimum Dynamic Area

0.00

18 MB

The cluster_habmap_msa.gpkg file is a geopackage with Natura 2000 forest habitat type clusters and is based on ' habitatmap_terr version 2023_v1 ' (the map of terrestrial habitat types in Flanders). It can be used to evaluate the Minimum Dynamic Area (MDA, Minimum Structuurareaal MSA in Dutch) of Natura 2000 forest habitat types. MDA is the minimum area required for a forest type to sustainably support all natural development phases without human intervention. The MDA for each forest habitat type in Flanders is specified in Oosterlynck et al. (2020). The geopackage consists of two layers: msa_2180 : clusters that contain Natura habitat type 2180 (Wooded dunes) and consist of connected habitat patches of habitat types 2180, 2160 ( Hippophaë rhamnoides dunes) and 91E0 (Alluvial forests). msa_91xx: clusters of connected habitat patches of all Natura 2000 forest habitat types that occur in Flanders for which the habitat code starts with '91' (9110: Luzulo-Fagetum beech forests; 9120: Beech-oak forests with Ilex; 9130: Neutrophilic beech forest; 9150: Limestone beech forests; 9160: Oak-hornbeam forests; 9190: Old oak forests; 91E0: Alluvial forests) To create the clusters, we have to take into account infrastructure that forms a physical barrier between forest patches. We used the data source GRBgis (version 2024-10-15) to select following objects: Motorways and dual carriageways from the 'Wegsegment' layer. Active railways from the 'Sbn' layer Navigable waterways from the 'Wlas' layer. The habitat clusters are created as follows: All polygons with habitat type 2160, 2180 or 91xx are selected from habitatmap_terr A buffer of 7.5 meter is created around the polygons Initial clusters are created: All buffered polygons with 2160, 2180 , 91E0 habitat types that touch or intersect form the clusters in msa_2180 All buffered polygons with 91xx habitat types that touch or intersect form the clusters in msa_91xx The barrier objects are removed from the initial clusters, in some cases splitting a cluster in two separated clusters Clusters with an area smaller than 50 m² are removed (artefacts) Finally, we calculate the the total area per forest type within each cluster: The total area of 2180 polygons within the msa_2180 clusters The total area for following (combinations of) habitat types or habitat subtypes within the msa_91xx clusters 9110 9120 9130 + 9150 9160 9190 91E0_va (Brook attending forests) + 91E0_vc (Ash-alder spring forests) 91E0_vm (Mesotrophic alder carrs) 91E0_vn (Eutrophic alder carrs) 91E0_vo (Oligotrophic (alder-)birch carrs) 91E0_sf (Riverine Salix forests) The calculated areas can then be compared with the MDA values in Oosterlynck et al. (2020). The MDA evaluation was part of the assessment of the Conservation Status of habitat types in Flanders (Vanden Borre et al. , 2025) Besides the geopackage, the dataset consists of two tables containing the same information in a different format: clusters_msa.csv gives an overview of all habitatmap_terr polygons (identified by polygon_id ) within each cluster (identified by cluster_id ) msa.csv gives the total area for each (combination of) habitat type or habitat subtype within each cluster (identified by cluster_id ) The dataset is created by the R-code in the GitHub repository 'n2khab-mhq-analysis' at commit 9a1ad7c . Additonal documentation of the R-code (in Dutch) is provided in the file msa_report.html .

6.2 MB

This map is a combination of the standardized habitat map of Flanders (version habitatmap_stdized_2025_v1) and the watersurface map of Flanders (version watersurfaces_2024). It contains standing water Natura 2000 habitat types (2190_a and 31xx) and regionally important biotopes (rbbah) in Flanders. The polygons with 2190_a habitat (dune slack ponds) are generated by selecting all watersurface polygons that overlap with dune habitat polygons (21xx) of the standardized habitat map. For each of the other aquatic habitat types (31xx and rbbah) we select the watersurface polygons that overlap with the selected habitat type polygons of the standardized habitat map. We also select polygons of the standardized habitat map that contain standing water types but do not overlap with polygons of the watersurface map. The watersurfaces_hab.gpkg file is a GeoPackage that contains: watersurfaces_hab_polygons : a spatial layer with the selected polygons that contain standing water habitat types or regionally important biotopes. Attributes: polygon_id polygon_id_ws : id for the polygon in the watersurfaces data source polygon_id_habitatmap : id's of all overlapping polygons of habitatmap_stdized that contain standing water habitat. The different id's are separated by '+'. description_orig : descriptions of all overlapping polygons of habitatmap_stdized that contain standing water habitat. The different descriptions are separated by '+'. year_assessment : the year when the types in the polygon have been assessed method_assessment : the method used to assess the types in the polygon watersurfaces_hab_types : a table with information on standing water habitat types and regionally important biotopes in each watersurface polygon. Attributes: polygon_id type : habitat or RIB type certain : TRUE when the type is certain and FALSE when the type is uncertain code_orig : original type code in the raw data source ' habitatmap ' The R-code for creating the watersurfaces_hab data source can be found in the GitHub repository 'n2khab-preprocessing' at commit 6a0f3ca . A reading function to return the data source in a standardized way into the R environment is provided by the R-package n2khab .

habitatmap_stdized: a standardized map of habitat types and regionally important biotopes in Flanders

100 MB

The habitatmap_stdized.gpkg file is a processed version of the Natura 2000 habitat map of Flanders (De Saeger et al., 2025; see also De Saeger et al. 2017). It contains all polygons with Natura 2000 habitat types or regional important biotopes (RIB). This file is used as a basis for designing monitoring schemes in Flanders. In the original habitat map, every polygon can consist of maximum 5 different types (habitat (sub)types and regionally important biotopes). This information is stored in the columns HAB1 , HAB2 ,..., HAB5 of the attribute table. The fraction of each type within the polygons is stored in the columns PHAB1 , PHAB2 , ..., PHAB5 . The habitatmap_stdized.gpkg file is a GeoPackage that contains: habitatmap_polygons : a spatial layer with every habitat map polygon that contains a Natura 2000 habitat or RIB type. habitatmap_types : a table with information on the habitat and RIB types (HAB1, HAB2,..., HAB5) that occur within each polygon of habitatmap_polygons. The processing of the habitatmap_types table included following adjustments: For some polygons the type is uncertain, and the type code in the raw habitatmap data source consists of 2 or 3 possible types, separated with a ','. The different possible types are split up and one row is created for each of them, with phab for each new row simply set to the original value of phab . The variable certain will be FALSE if the original type code consists of 2 or 3 possible types, and TRUE if only one type is provided. Some polygons contain both a standing water habitat type and rbbmr : 3130_rbbmr , 3140_rbbmr , 3150_rbbmr , and 3160_rbbmr . Since habitatmap_stdized_2020_v1 , the two types 31xx and rbbmr are split up and one row is created for each of them, with phab for each new row simply set to the original value of phab . The variable certain in this case will be TRUE for both types. After those steps, a given polygon could contain the same type with the same value for certain repeated several times, e.g. when 31xx_rbbmr is present with phab = yy% and 31xx is present with phab = zz%. In that case the rows with the same polygon_id , type and certain were gathered into one row and the respective phab values were added up. The R-code for creating the habitatmap_stdized data source can be found in the GitHub repository 'n2khab-preprocessing' at commit 37e58c1 . A reading function to return the data source in a standardized way into the R environment is provided by the R-package n2khab . Attributes of habitatmap_polygons : polygon_id description_orig : polygon description based on the original type codes in the raw habitatmap year_assessment : the year when the types in the polygon have been assessed method_assessment : the method used to assess the types in the polygon Attributes of habitatmap_types : polygon_id type : the interpreted habitat or RIB type certain : TRUE when type is certain and FALSE when type is uncertain code_orig : original type code in raw habitatmap phab : proportion of polygon covered by type, as a percentage. Since version habitatmap_stdized_2020_v1 , rows are unique only by the combination of the polygon_id , type and certain columns.

Composite Site Productivity Index (CSPI) v2.0.0 for the conterminous United States: 30 m multi-metric composite

0.00

Weiskittel, Aaron R.

8.0 MB

Version 2.0.0 of the Composite Site Productivity Index (CSPI) for the 48 conterminous United States at 30 m (EPSG:4326). Where v1.0.0 provided a single-metric Environmental Site Index, v2.0.0 delivers a true multi-metric composite. The headline product (CSPI_v2_5component_30m.tif) is the z-score weighted average of five independently fitted productivity layers, sigma-clipped at +/-3 and rescaled to 0-100: (1) Environmental Site Index (ESI v7), (2) Biomass Growth Increment from FIA remeasurement pairs, (3) asymptotic aboveground biomass (Chapman-Richards), (4) Miami-model NPP from PRISM climate, and (5) MOD17 satellite NPP. Both NPP formulations are retained as independent components because each captures a distinct productivity signal and prior analysis showed both perform well. Coverage correction: an earlier internal v2 composite used only the Miami NPP, which had been derived from a truncated climate input and was therefore empty over New England and the coastal Pacific Northwest. The climate inputs were regenerated from intact source data and MOD17 NPP was added as a second NPP component; this release has complete CONUS coverage including northern Maine, Oregon, and Washington. Forest-masked, 1 km aggregate, and composite-scale uncertainty layers accompany the headline composite, along with the ESI predicted-site-index products and the component input layers.
